Day 1551

…You can tell by the way

He holds his gut

He hasn’t seen a weight set

Since high school

The giggles still ring

And sure, he’s still never done a proper pull-up

But he consoles himself by

Having never been accused of sexual assault

(To his face at least)

And yeah that’s a stretch of a comparison

But you’re not here for aesthetics are you

So he watches the pavement when crossing paths

Hasn’t shown his teeth to a stranger in who knows how long

Stopped trusting his feet on bridges

They always get so light

With a yearning to jump

See, He stopped questioning the same day he convinced himself he’d die alone

And doesn’t look at the river in the mornings

What use is freedom

If you can’t swim…
